The Maxwell Library provides numerous learning and research support services for students, faculty, staff and the local community. Borrowing and Renewing Books and Media Items 

All undergraduate and graduate students may borrow up to 35 items from the library's General Collection, including DVDs, books, musical scores, audio CDs, and other resources. The loan period for most books is 30 days and 7 days for audio CDs and DVDs. You can renew items online, by phone or at the Library Services Desk in Maxwell Library. Students must use their BSU ID card to check out library materials.

 Borrowing and Renewing Technology Items 

The library has a collection of technology items that are available for 1 week loans, with the possibility of renewals. These items include cameras, video cameras, projectors, microphones, and more.

Fees 

Late Fees: 

  • Students are not assessed late fees for General Collection circulating items.
  •  Course reserves will accrue late fees of $1.00 per hour (or part thereof) to a maximum of $10.00 per item. 
  • Equipment will accrue late fees of $1.00 per day to a maximum of $10 per item.

 Replacement Fees for Long Overdue/Damaged/Unreturned Items 

  • General Collection and ERC circulating items (i.e., books, maps, musical scores, audio CDs, etc.): $55.00 
  • Children's collection items: $30.00 
  • CDs: $40.00 
  • DVDs and videos: $75.00 

Notes: 

  • Items will be declared long overdue 1 month after the due date. 
  • Borrowers with long overdue items will be sent a bill for the replacement fees, and have their library accounts restricted. 
  • Students who have not paid the replacement fees for long overdue items may have a transcript/graduation hold placed on their accounts.
  •  Borrowers returning long overdue items undamaged within 30 days of paying the replacement fees will have these fees refunded. 
  • Online payment via the Marketplace page is strongly preferred.

Other Services 

Holds 

Patrons may request a HOLD on print books and other materials by contacting the library. 

Recalls 

Maxwell Library staff reserve the right to recall books. When an item is recalled, an email notice is sent informing the borrower of the new due date. 

Library Lost & Found 

Found items may be turned into the Library Services Desk. If possible, owners of items that have been turned in will be contacted. Valuable items (mobile phones, wallets, electronics) will be brought to the BSU Campus Police after 30 days.
