Intercollegiate Athletics Eligibility Policy

Policy regarding intercollegiate athletics involvement by BSU students

All BSU student-athletes must be a full time undergraduate student; maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours or the equivalent each semester; achieve a minimum grade point average of 2.0; pass 24 credit hours (normal progress rule) or the equivalent in an academic year as a full-time student; sign the NCAA student-athlete statement concerning eligibility, Student's Privacy Rights Concerning Education Records consent, the NCAA Drug Testing Consent as well as acknowledge receipt of the current year’s Student-Athlete Handbook.

As per NCAA bylaw, student-athletes are required to undergo a physical examination by a physician and complete a medical history form prior to competing on intercollegiate teams. Specific information on these exams can be obtained either from the Director of Athletics or from the Assistant Director of Athletics from Sports Medicine.

In addition, there are very specific NCAA requirements that must be met by transfer students from two-year, four-year, or multiple institutions.  For information please confer with the Director of Athletics or the Associate Athletics Director for Academic Support and Compliance.

On a case-by-case basis, a student enrolled in a part-time academic course load as an accommodation to a documented learning disability will not be excluded from participating in athletic programs. The student should contact the Associate Director of Athletics for Academic Support and Compliance to discuss the NCAA petition and appeal process.
